LOS ANGELES, Nov. 17 (UPI) – Alexis Bledel said filming the episodes for the upcoming Gilmore Girls reboot, A Year in the Life, was “almost like getting a do over.”

“Coming back was an incredible opportunity to approach our work with intention,” she said. “Rather than being sort of reactionary to everything around me, I could just focus on the scenes and what I wanted to do and that was just a great thing to get to do. It’s almost like getting a do over. It doesn’t happen very often.”

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life picks up nine years after the original show’s series finale and, in four movie-like episodes each set in a different season, and provides a “where are they now” for the show’s beloved characters.

The revival starts with the winter-themed episode and find’s Bledel’s Rory Gilmore back home in the fictional town of Stars Hollow, Ct., after trying for nearly a decade to make it as a journalist.

“My character’s been working hard as per usual, but she’s on her own so she’s just more focused on what she is trying to accomplish,” Bledel said. “She started her career in journalism at a time when the industry was changing quite a bit so newspapers were going away and she has kind of been chasing stories and crashing on people’s couches in the process. So she’s not really rooted anywhere.”

Bledel also said Rory’s story will focus on her relationship with her mother Lorelei, played by Lauren Graham.

“I think anyone who has a bond as close as theirs, a relationship that’s that closely knit together and you do have a lot of time apart, coming back together can put you through…a roller coaster of emotions, some transitions possibly, depending on how long it’s been,” Bledel said. “So in a way it’s a great place to start because there might be things to work through, there might be things to celebrate, we don’t know yet.”

Graham echoed Bledel’s statements in a different interview, saying the passage of time from one series run to the next allows fans to take a different look at the characters in these new episodes.

“For each character who’s living in a different decade, it’ sort of the quintessential question: What does one face at this age?” she said.

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life premieres on Netflix on Nov. 25.
