NEW YORK, Oct. 11 (UPI) – Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell say they’re “very happy” despite recently starting couples therapy.

The Bachelor Season 20 couple assured fans their relationship is fine in a new interview with E! News after revealing they’re in counseling.

“The reason we wanted to share that we are going to couples therapy is because it is kind of taboo and I don’t think it should be that way. I think everyone just wanted to make sure we’re okay, and yes, we are okay,” Bushnell said.

“It was more preventative,” she explained. “We want to have a really solid foundation. We want to address certain problems maybe before they even exist and just have that third party to help us through pre-marriage and engagement and being a new couple.”

Higgins had told Entertainment Tonight last week that he and Bushnell are doing couples counseling through their church. The couple have faced a number of challenges, including moving Bushnell from Oregon to Colorado, since getting engaged.

“We need a mediator between us just to help us communicate anything we need to work out individually [and] together. Then, let’s celebrate,” he said Oct. 4.

“I wasn’t always great at change,” Bushnell added. “I grew up in a very stable household and had a job for a long time. So moving to a new city, making new friends, that was really hard for me, and going through all those changes.”

Higgins and Bushnell got engaged on The Bachelor Season 20 finale. The pair will next star on the new Freeform series Ben and Lauren: Happily Ever After?, which premieres Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.
