NEW YORK, Nov. 23 (UPI) – Janet Montgomery says she loves working on Salem so much she hopes the supernatural series gets picked up for a fourth season so she can see how else her 17th century witch Mary Sibley might evolve.

“We’re really lucky, actually, I think, that we’ve done three seasons, and hope to do a fourth,” the 31-year-old, British actress told reporters recently at New York Comic Con. “Hopefully, that will mean that if we just keep making great TV and telling good stories, then we’ll get to keep doing it.”

Salem co-creator Brannon Braga credited the Entourage and Human Target alum with making Mary a character “people really hooked into and responded to.”

“The show is really about her and Janet brought her to life in an amazing way and I really think the show is handsomely produced. It’s scary and sexy, but it’s really her character that I think is why people watch the show,” Braga noted.

So, what can Montgomery say about Mary’s journey thus far?

“My character, she has gone through so many different events that have changed who she is since Season 1, that have awoken her humanity and then I think that Season 3, giving her life to save John and then being ripped from the grave, back to Salem and essentially being sort of trapped there and with a task to do, I think she is very different this season,” Montgomery said. “You can’t bring someone back from the dead and have them be exactly the same.”

“Especially, if she doesn’t want to come back and Mary died at peace saving her love,” Braga added. “What’s fascinating to me is the way the characters have evolved over the course of three seasons. Nobody is in the place that you thought they would be. By the end of Season 3, you are going to be like, ‘How in the hell did we get here with these people?’ But somehow it all works. It’s a show about transformation. It’s a show about love. Every character is driven by love.”

Co-starring Shane West, Seth Gabel, Tamzin Merchant, Ashley Madekwe, Elise Eberle, Iddo Goldberg and Xander Berkeley, Salem airs on WGN America Wednesday nights.
